John Bosco College — now an official District School of De La Salle Philippines

January 20th, 2007 by dottie-maes

FYI.

John Bosco School is in Mangagoy, Bislig City, in the province of Surigao del Sur. It was supervised by De La Salle Brothers since 1974. The school’s name was changed to John Bosco College in 1997/1998. But it became an official District School of De La Salle Philippines last year. So this February of 2007,  John Bosco College will again change its name to DE LA SALLE COLLEGE OF ST JOHN BOSCO.

Officially Employed :)

December 22nd, 2006 by dottie-maes

2006. July. August. September. October. November. December.

I cannot believe that I have been doing absolutely nothing for the past 5-6 months. No job. No income. Just wandering around Cebu. A total bummer. How did I survive?! I don’t know.

I have been jobless for almost half a year. And it was my choice. Mainly because I DON’T KNOW WHAT I WANT TO DO. I was offered a job in Singapore last September, and a couple of jobs here in Cebu last October and November… BUT i have to turn them down. I was and I still am confused, if I’m gonna stay in the Philippines, or if I’m gonna try my luck in another country again. Philippines, because I’m not yet sure if I’m ready to go out of the country again. And of course, my loved ones are here. (read: family and bee) Singapore/Abroad because I think there are a lot of better job opportunities there. And better pay as well.

After weighing the pros and cons and everything, I have decided to stay. So I applied for different jobs here in Cebu again. Luckily, on my 2nd day of job hunting, I got hired. Weeee!!! Unluckily, our training starts a month after. So that means extended vacation. Yeah right, like I needed an extension. So I bummed around for another month.

And at long laaaaast, I started my first day of training yesterday. Yipee! :)

So what’s my point? I don’t know. I just wanted to write a blog coz I haven’t written an entry since October. But I don’t know if my blog makes sense to you guys. Well whatever.

Oh well. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!

RC gave birth to a very cute 2.7 kilogram baby boy last friday, October 6 2006 at 10:55 am. Since it is RC and Junrey’s first baby, they were really excited, but scared at the same time. I asked them how they felt when they saw their baby for the first time… ‘unexplainable feeling’. You will really cry daw talaga. Plus all the pagod, effort and everything will be worth it. I’m so happy for them. (Can’t wait to have my own baby. YIKES! Hehehe. I’m not yet ready no!) So yeah, Congratulations to RC and Junrey. See you on the 22nd, sa binyag ni baby shox. Miss you bru.

HELP MANGAGOY/BISLIG

October 9th, 2006 by dottie-maes

[entry taken from Joey's blog]

October 3, 2006. Bislig, Surigao del Sur. a massive fire ate up approximately 3000 households in the public market area of the seaside city of Bislig Surigao del Sur. Many of the affected are small scale merchants who live on the stores surrounding the public market, and fishermen who rely heavily on the public market for deals. This is the biggest fire in the history of the town, rendering around 15000 people homeless and with little supply of food. The town is still in shock. As of this writing, rescue and relief operations are being done to find the bodies of those trapped in the fire. The town depends on the public market for their daily supply of food, and with the market now gone, they will need every help they can get. Bislig is five hours away from Davao and Butuan.

Help can be of any form: clothes, food, utensils, medicines, cash etc. for those who can give please send your donations to Rockedphilippines and we will make sure these will reach the proper authorities in Bislig. dubai dubai dubai

reply to cecelia’s blog.

AJMAN, first destination

Aside from the creepy people and fire on our first day, ces forgot to mention the noodles-for-a-week diet. It was Ramadan when we arrived so all stores and restos were closed. We don’t have any decent food to eat since we just arrived from the Phils. The stores and restos open after 6pm, but our work was from 2pm-12mn so there was no way that we can do the groceries. We bought noodles na lang sa convience store. And we ate noodles lang, as in no rice or whatsoever, for a week. Imagine?!

Ajman is an hour drive from Dubai. In short, naa na siya sa bukid, outside Dubai. We had bad experiences in Ajman so after a week, we moved out from the company’s accommodation.

BUR DUBAI, second destination

Hmmm nicest and biggest room we ever had. And most affordable as well — considering the size of the room. If not for the "samukan" visitors that we had (katong lovers in paris… hehehe), we won’t be transferring to satwa. Let me say, this is the most memorable place we had in Dubai. Aside from the famous eviction, parties, drinking session, etc… naa pa sad mi usa ka secret diri nga place. right toni? hehehe. just kidding. love yah toni. hehehe. And who can forget our crying sessions on christmas day. We woke up early in the afternoon and talked about how sad our christmas is gonna be. Mayang started to cry and takdan nasad ang uban sa ato. Then my family called and i began crying again. After the call, we ate our late lunch but I was still crying. So natakdan nasad ang uban. We were eating, crying and laughing at the same time. The reason for crying? Aside from we missed our loved ones very much, we don’t have any money left for our 9day xmas vacation. Kasi… Our very good company didn’t give us our salary =( Good thing, our other housemates prepared food for Noche Buena and nag amot na lang sad mi gamay. So we still had fun on christmas eve. Our first christmas away from home. Hubog and busog gihapon. Hehehe. On christmas day itself, we ate the leftover food, then naglingaw sa swimming pool sa bldg. Hahay.

AL SATWA, third destination

The so-called Colon in Dubai. But come to think of it, it’s cleaner and safer than Colon sad daw oi. Place na dili namo ganahan puy-an before coz it’s kinda gubot  compared to Bur Dubai. But nakastay gihapon mi and nalingaw ra sad mi. A lot of Filipinos in this place. You’ll go to Al Maya Lals Supermarket and mura ra sad ka ug naa sa Gaisano Metro coz halos tanan tao are Fiipinos. Met a lot of friends here as well =)

Side trips? Hmmm. Wild Wadi. I was about to go w Mayang and the others, but I was too tired. Sayang becoz Mayang had a good discount. From 200 dhs, we only have to pay 15 dhs. I’ve heard that it was really amazing. Cge lang, next time. Hehehe. Desert Safari. Only in my dreams. Usual hang-outs: Jumeirah Beach/Outside Burj Al Arab, Chikka Grill (as in every weekend — ilado na gud mi sa banda ddto, imention pirmi ang name namo… Hehehe), Tipanan (ahhh bulalo and tapsilog), Deira City Center (grocery and shopping galore), Baskin Robbins (fave namo ni toni — heaven gyud kaayo), Hardees, Marrybrown, Mall of the Emirates, etc etc etc. Basta daghan kaayo.

On the more serious note, Dubai was like a dream come true. I mean US is my main target. We all do have the so-called ‘American Dream’ ayt? Dubai was like my stepping stone to the US. If not for Skycom, I would have decided to stay. Despite the fact that i missed my loved ones a lot. But because of my very bad experience — no, let me rephrase that — But because of my worst experience in Skycom, I decided to go home. Well I didn’t decide, actually. My family wanted me to go home already. I missed my family a lot esp bee so I went home. I think Dubai is not for me. Or maybe, this is not the right time for me to go to other places. Biglaan man sad gud akong paglarga. Didn’t have plans gyud. Nikalit lang gyud siya abot and I wasn’t able to plan everything wisely. Plus grabe pa gyud ang ’sales talk’ sa among agency which was all not true. Grabe ang pasakay. Grrrrr! But I can’t do anything about it. Nangyari na ang nangyari. My mom told me to think about it as a lesson learned. She told me to forget about the bad experiences, and treasure the good memories I had with my friends. One friend also told me na unsaon man daw ng money kung d ko happy. Ang money makit-an ra na anytime anywhere. Anyway datu man ko diri sa pinas so I don’t give a damn about Dubai. Hahaha. Kidding lang po =p But then, I live a hayahay life here in the Pinas. So i don’t think I’m that desperate to sacrifice my happiness for money.

Yes, THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE HOME. I now believe in that. Money is not everything. But you also can’t live without money. I still have plans of going to other countries in the future. Coz even if I have mana from my family, I still want to earn money on my own. As I said, our mana (gamay man or dako) would only be a fall back. If wala na gyud lain choice. Since I’m still young, I will work really hard to earn money that I can give to my children in the future. D magsalig kung unsa naa imong family coz you’ll never know what will happen in the future. Simbako. As of now, I will be staying in the Phils muna. Enjoying everything about Pinas. And cguro by late next year, I will go to another country na naman. God willing.

Ces Toni Mayang Jackie Dale Bong Edgar Veda Totong and other Dubai friends (sorry if wala na nako namention tanan coz mapuno akong blog… Hehehe. You know who you are), don’t give up the fight. You’re happy man sad diha coz you have your "happiness" (term ni toni… hehehe). Basta kitakits lang gihapon. Text/Call me when you’re in the Phils ha =) Miss you all.

By the way, i forgot to mention na becoz of my close friends in Dubai (ones mentioned above…), medyo natiis nako gamay akong life didto. I wouldn’t last 9mos if not for them. I love you all.

*** ang drama ko no? si ces man gud ba. hahaha ***

cecelia’s blog entry

August 24th, 2006 by dottie-maes

Got this from my friend’s blog site. Ces, asked for you permission na baya ha. Nalingaw lang man gud ko kaya i decided to post it here. Hehehe. enjoy reading =)

—————————-

Can you remember Dorothy Gale from the Wizard of Oz? The famous girl who went through a lot of adventures in strange places and met a lot of significant figures but eventually ended up in one place…. HOME. Dorothy’s adventures were revived when she came to Dubai. She started her journey back on the 1st of November 2005.

First Destination - AJMAN!

Ajman is a land full of creepy people. Men would stare at you like they want to eat you alive. I would describe it as a place suitable for shooting horror movies. You can roam around the place with your heartbeat racing all the time thinking somebody might grab you from behind. And who can’t forget that FIRE in our accommodation on our FIRST DAY? Terrible!

Second Destination - BUR DUBAI!

This place, they say, is the Makati of Dubai. The cost of living is higher compared to other places like Karama, Satwa or Deirra. Though the place is peaceful and quiet, but this is where we had a hell of a time. Parties, drinking sessions, beach trip, arguments and confrontations! Remember the famous eviction? And…. can you imagine four people lined up on the dining table and crying on Christmas Eve since they don’t have anything for Noche Buena? It seemed funny but it was actually really very sad! (But I’m still not over the eviction thing! hahahaha)

Third Destination - AL SATWA!

From a place like Makati to a place as chaotic as Colon in Cebu. That’s Al Satwa! Pakistanis and Indians scattered everywhere in this place wearing their blue / dirty white over-alls. Different body odors, different faces of people and… different mobile phones and gadgets. All kinds of mobile phones and gadgets are scattered around town, second hand or brand new ones. Ate Loida’s place, My Perfumes, Shawarma, Chicken Burger, Villa 41, Lals, KFC, Pizza Hut, Al Diyafa, Satwa Market, Bus Station, 21st Street, Villa 90, Kuya Paul…. and the list could go on.. These are the major places, things or people Dorothy had encountered in Al Satwa.

Of course, there were side trips such as…. Wild Wadi (? hahaha), Desert Safari (? hahaha again), outside Burj Al Arab, Jumeirah beach, the famous CHIKKA GRILL (H2O & Forefront), Tipanan, Al Gubaiba, DIC (who can forget?), Deirra City Centre, Sheikh Zayed Road, Marrybrown in Karama, Hardees, Baskin n Robbins, Haagen Dazs (ka eat ba ka diri Ting?hehe), Sharjah City Centre, Sharjah 5 Dirham Store, Adidas Factory Outlet, Ibn Batuta Mall, Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai Museum, Mall of the Emirates, Al Riqqa Road, Karama Souq, Hyatt, Karama Fish Market and a lot more! Who can imagine that her side trips were more than her actual destination? hehhee

Hmmmphh…. It then led me to ask…. What was the real reason why Dorothy went home? Could it be that there was a recency effect on that fire experience we had on our first day in Ajman and the trauma is still there? Or is it because of too much guilt feeling for evicting one house mate in Bur Dubai? (hahaha!) It could also be that she felt so bored since we haven’t been to Chikka Grill lately! Or…. don’t tell me the major PAHAMAK is SKYCOM???? (It couldn’t be since SKYCOM Management is too good to be true!hahahah) Perhaps it is because of too much heat this summer. Or maybe we (Mean Girls) were so mean to her and we were treating her badly? :( I could come up with one million reasons until this site would no longer accept any more words, but there is only one reasonable reason why Dorothy left Dubai…. THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE HOME! :) Others might call it insanity. Some would think it is stupidity. My Dad termed it as arrogance. My Mom says it is homesickness. However they call it, I share Dorothy’s feelings. It’s not insanity, stupidity, arrogance nor homesickness, it is FOLLOWING YOUR HEART!

Millions of Filipinos dream of going abroad to earn millions and become filthy rich. Majority of these dreamers would do anything just to get out of that place they call HELL / PHILIPPINES. I, for one, wanted to become filthy rich. I wanted to buy my own house, drive my own car, spend thousands of pesos on clothes and jewelry, take my parents for a vacation in the Caribbean or even wanting to buy a husband (hahaha!). I was always on my comfort zone and I hated that. My parents were always there for me and I didn’t like the idea of being too dependent on them. And so I ventured… trying to live life to the fullest… hoping I would become a millionaire when I get back (an independent and mature millionaire! **wink). But everytime I roam and enjoy the glitz and glamour of a first world country, I would remember my parents in the Philippines. Each time I shop for things and enjoy nice foods on fancy international restaurants, I would miss all my friends back home. I would rather pick up ukay-ukay clothes from Carbon or spend 30 pesos on a blouse in Tabo Sa Banay. in doing this, I will have PATIENCE to search the blouse I want to buy in the whole of the ukay-ukay area in Carbon or taking a tour all over Tabo Sa Banay. I would rather eat in Larsian or the pungko-pungko near JY Square. In doing so, I could realize HOW LITTLE MONEY I HAVE BUT THEN STILL APPRECIATE THE FACT THAT I AM STILL EATING SOMETHING. I would rather own an old Nokia 2100 rather than a 3G phone. In having so, I will hate the fact that everybody is having nice and expensive phones while I’m using an old and ugly one, so, I WOULD RATHER MEET MY FRIENDS IN PERSON INSTEAD OF SENDING THEM TEXT MESSAGES USING AN ANTIQUE PHONE. I would rather earn 15K each month because having little money would remind me to be humble, rather than earning a bigger salary and being able to pay for an internet connection and own a PC but then being able to write all these sentimental bullshits! (hahaha!) Last… I would rather eat pizza at Bodoo’s (Alcoy) than eating in different pizza parlors here because…. what else do you all think? Heller! Pizza in Bodoo’s is THE BEST! (think it’s another sentimental crap? hahahaha!)

I knew Han (Fast n Furious: Tokyo Drift) taught us life’s secret…. TO MAKE A CHOICE AND NOT TO LOOK BACK. But he never said not to appreciate people who are brave enough and smart enough to really know what they want in life. And Dorothy had proven she’s one smart gal! :) (Padad-i nya kog buwad ug masarial Ting ha?hehehe) Being able to distinguish one’s wants from one’s needs is very hard but Dorothy surpassed it… She needed to get back home because that would make her happy… And that is what matters most!

My conclusion? There is still no place like home! :) That’s the reason I will go home soon! But I’ll leave the Philippines again… because I still need to work on the maturity and independent thing!hehehehe Hmmmmm… on becoming a millionaire? I doubt it! I still spend money like I won the lottery or I married a drug lord! hahahaha
